It's XHTML -- eXtensible Hypertext Markup Language -- and you're looking at it right now.
XHTML is a vast improvement over HTML and offers real advantages you can benefit from today:
The syntax is more consistent than HTML, and validation tools reduce development and debugging time.
Pages can be structured with content and layout as separate components. This permits changes in appearance while simplifying content management.
Since content is better structured, it is easier to access and index, improving search engine accuracy.
XHTML typically occupies significantly less space than HTML, reducing storage, bandwidth, and download time.
XHTML may be converted into databases, Word documents, and other formats. Content can be presented in all browsers, old and new, including devices such as PDAs, cell phones, and TVs.
Sites are easily navigable by those with disabilities, opening new customer markets. For example, browsers can read XHTML pages aloud or translate them into Braille.
XHTML is supported by current web browsers and authoring software. As new versions of XHTML are published, older XHTML documents can be upgraded to take advantage of new features.
It's easy to see why businesses are shifting to standards-based web design using XHTML. It addresses weaknesses in traditional HTML and can positively impact your bottom line.
This newsletter, for example, is designed in XHTML, optimized for email. It uses no tables, JavaScript, or other "old school" HTML hacks. Producing our newsletters is now faster and simpler.
Standards-compliancy is so important that we are developing all new sites with it as a rule. We encourage you to follow our lead by learning more about web standards and the benefits of investing in a compliant web site. Contact us if you'd like to find out if your site is compliant. You may be surprised.
This month, we showcase the I2B Networks web site,
produced by DTL. We conducted an exhaustive assessment of I2B's
original site and developed a complete overhaul with fresh copy and
easier navigation. "The site looks great! We're
impressed with the results," says Tim Sears, CEO. DTL
used standards-based XHTML, following best practices for
optimizing presentation in current and future browsers. DTL also
developed a unique PHP-based page generation engine to simplify
content management.
Sincerely,
