A year ago, Microsoft pulled the plug on developing IE for the Macintosh and has been forced to focus resources on patching IE's numerous security holes under Windows. Preoccupied with pernicious viruses and worms, it appears that Microsoft has taken its eye off a fire-breathing beast that could seriously diminish the software giant's browser domination.
The latest email and web browser innovations are coming from an organized group of open source software developers known as Mozilla — a conjugation of "Mosaic", the first popular web browser, and "Godzilla". Mozilla's award-winning applications, completely free to download, are winning high praise from PC Magazine, c|Net, LinuxJournal and other media. Since it is built on publicly viewable open source code, security issues are far less common.
The last time Microsoft failed to keep an eye on open source software, Linux had invaded.
With increased interest in Mozilla and a high demand among businesses for Microsoft alternatives, it is critical to make sure your web site looks and functions properly under Internet Explorer and non-Microsoft browsers alike. It is easy to check for yourself, or just ask and we'll let you know how your site fares. Microsoft may be big enough to ignore Mozilla (for a while), but are you?
This month, we showcase the Mission Valley
Landscape Company web site, designed and hosted by DTL. It's
not easy being green . . . unless you have Dan
Vasquez and his highly reputable business to keep things
growing for you. Landscaping San Diego since 1968, the company
chose DTL to create its first web site based on strong
recommendations from IT consultant, Datacom
Management. We used standards-based XHTML for optimal
presentation and compatibility with current and future
browsers. After all, Mission Valley Landscape's
successful history demands a web site that thrives in any
season.
Sincerely,

Morgan Davis
President, DTL Networx
